Internships R&D Centre
We have a range of exciting internship opportunities for you! You’ll have the chance to work alongside our experienced team in our Research and Development Centre.
If you want to apply your learning to provide solutions to complex challenges, then we want to hear from you.
What we do
Dual Inventive works with our sister companies Core-Vision and Arcobel to develop and produce state-of-the-art wireless products enabling people to work more safely and efficiently in the rail sector, whilst maximising rail capacity, and improving reliability.
We want to be ahead of our competitors, so we’re constantly looking for new technologies to improve the efficiency and safety of track workers through product advancements.
What we expect from you
Your learning and knowledge is what we are looking for. You are more likely to be familiar with the latest technologies and innovations that will help take our products to the next level.
Working in the rail sector we are faced with lots of challenges. We want to be at the forefront of our competitors, by tackling these challenges head on providing customers with solutions to meet their needs.
For example:
- How do we know which new technologies are available in the world?
- How can we prove them?
- And more importantly, how can we implement these technologies in the rail sector?
As an intern, you will contribute to ground breaking research that could potentially shape the future of rail. You’ll have the opportunity to enhance your technical skills whilst gaining valuable insights into the technology side of the rail sector.
Your assignment
You will join a professional Research and Development team, where you’ll be given an assignment to work on which will form part of a bigger challenge we face in the rail industry.
Together, we will work with you to define the scope of the assignment ensuring that you are confident and excited about the task in hand, while aligning it with Dual Inventive’s overarching vision.
What to expect
- Your day will start with a stand-up meeting with both the team and your coach.
- You’ll participate in two-weekly sprints.
- Hybrid working options will be available
- Regularly, you and the team will present your ongoing work to the company’s product owners and stakeholders.
During your internship, you will have continuous support from an experienced team of developers and a coach who will guide you through the internship.
Assignments available
We can’t reveal all the details upfront as we don’t want to give away our secrets and we want to keep an element of surprise. But we want to give you an insight into the assignments you may be working on.
Geo Internship Assignment: Integration of Map Visualisation into Production System
A previous internship delivered a proof-of-concept (PoC) to visualize work areas using interactive maps with data layers from external sources. This was achieved using technologies such as tile servers, ArcGIS, GeoJSON, and Go (GoLang), allowing users to see a spatial overview of assets and products with metadata.
Now, we’re ready to take the next step by integrating the existing PoC into our production system to make it robust, scalable and user-friendly that provides live data connections and a clear architecture for long-term maintainability.
We’ll give you access to the tools and technology to deliver a first prototype of a fully integrated and functional map visualisation module.
DeveOps Internship Assignment: Artifactory Evaluation, Integration and Migration
This assignment involves integrating an Artifactory server into our existing Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) pipeline, replacing our current Artifactory. You’ll need to evaluate and select the best Artifactory, optimize upstream caching and validate your approach with a proof of concept (PoC).
UI/UX Internship Assignment: Extending Flutter App
A previous intern developed a proof-of-concept (PoC) mobile app using Flutter with MQTT integration showcasing real-time data exchange. Now, we want to take this to the next level, building on the foundation to make production-ready app.
The successful intern will enhance the existing PoC by incorporating new functionalities such as geo-location features, a customised user interfaced as well as a mobile sensor integration.
By building on our initial success, we’ll be able to create a more robust and functional app with geo-location and sensor support that meets the demands of real-world applications.
Internship Assignment: Project Logic Controller (PLC) Interlocking Integration for Simulation Tracks
A previous intern created a proof-of concept (PoC) simulating railway devices inside tracks.
At Dual Inventive we have the FieldLab, with two real tracks along with clear signage for demonstrations. This assignment focuses on integrating a PLC-based interlocking system into these tracks and connect the existing simulation.
This outcome of this assignment will help us to test and showcase the system in a more realistic way bringing the PoC closer to reality.
If you’re interested, we have lots of innovative ideas ready to discuss with you, but we also want to hear your ideas.
Working together
Through collaborative working, we can make a real impact and transform rail safety.
Liem joined the team as an Intern in February, he said:
“It was important to me to have an interesting assignment, that aligned with my passion for IoT.
I was fortunate that Dual Inventive was advertising an exciting opportunity to work on an IoT assignment in an interesting context fulfilling my desire for a stimulating challenge.”
