Background
The ZKL 3000 RC is operated via the MTinfo 3000 app. As a prerequisite for using MTinfo 3000, staff must complete the competency course which grants them access to the MTinfo 3000 platform. Within this platform, planners can create the projects for users of ZKL 3000 RCs. To activate ZKL 3000 RCs remotely competent users are added to the project during the planning stage ā allowing them to activate and deactivate devices.
Historically, only individuals holding the MTinfo 3000 Planner competency were authorised to return and release projects until the introduction of the return function via the app, but this was only 50% of the solution to the project.
Problem
Limiting users to returning projects without the ability to release them was having an impact on productivity as the devices could not beĀ used on any other projects until they had been released locking out the various disciplines.
The introduction of the release feature by the app was only half of the solution which resulted in low adoption and limited operational benefit.
The introduction of the release function allowed users to release projects they were assigned to even when the MTinfo Planner was unavailable. For example, projects couldn’t be released over the weekend, and had to wait until the planner became available, previously, this delay prevented work from progressing.
Solution

In response, the UK Operational team came up with a solution that would allow users to release projects via the MTinfo 3000 web-platform (not the app). Introducing this function provided a faster and more efficient solution, while expanding controlled access to users in the field.
Since introducing this new feature, it has allowed ZKL 3000 RCs to be used more effectively by the various disciplines and protection methods i.e. T3-A possession and line blockages.
Various routes are seeing significant benefits now that users have the ability to return and release projects within MTinfo 3000 giving them access to additional protection provided by the ZKL 3000 RC.

Overall, the introduction of project release within MTinfo 3000 demonstrates how digital innovation can be used to improve operational safety, reduce delays, and enable more efficient project delivery across the rail infrastructure ā internationally.
