The RSS 3000 is a remote safety switch operated via the MTinfo 3000 Cloud.

Permanently installed, it interfaces with railway signalling and power systems to create safe work zones, enabling track workers to carry out maintenance work safely.

When triggered via the MTinfo 3000 platform, the RSS 3000 can either manipulate signals and points or activate traction power grounding, depending on the application. This flexibility makes it a powerful solution for enhancing safety during maintenance.

Below are two primary use cases for the RSS 3000:

Use Case 1

01 Uses existing signalling system to protect track workers

When working on the railway, preventing unauthorised trains from entering the work zone is essential for track worker safety. In this first use case, the RSS 3000 connects to the signal interlocking equipment.

When activated using the MTinfo 3000 App, it cuts power to the signalling relay, setting the signals to red to provide a safe work zone so that no train is routed into the protected area.

This provides an immediate safe worksite: any oncoming traffic is held outside the protected area and maintenance staff can carry out tasks without worrying about live train movements.

 

01 Uses existing signalling system to protect track workers

When working on the railway, preventing unauthorised trains from entering the work zone is essential for track worker safety. In this first use case, the RSS 3000 connects to the signal interlocking equipment.

Use Case 2

01 Remotely operates overhead line isolation equipment

Before track workers can work on electrified railway sections (overhead lines or third rails), the traction power must be isolated and earthed for safety. The RSS 3000 is integrated with specialised switchgear, when the device is activated via MTinfo 3000 App, it creates a short-circuit to the overhead line or third rail.

If the power is accidentally restored, this section of line is immediately discharged, allowing maintenance teams to work safely.

 

02 Permanently installed

In Use Case 1, the installation can sitĀ alongside signal interlocking equipment or housed within a lineside cabinet, ensuring seamless integration with existing railway infrastructure.Ā With a 10-year maintenance-free design,Ā you’llĀ experience significant operational improvements and reduced long-term costsĀ 

In Use Case 2, the installation can be fully tailored to meet the specific requirements of the catenary layout, providing flexibility for a wide range of overhead line systems.Ā

03 Remotely activated

Like other Dual Inventive products, the RSS 3000 is controlled remotely via the MTinfo 3000 app. It can be activated with a simple command on a smartphone/tablet. The system responds in seconds, establishing the protective state (signals red or power grounded) immediately.

Subsequently, the RSS 3000 can just as easily be deactivated to restore the rail network to normal operation. Every activation or deactivation event is logged in the system for accountability and safety audits.
